The Smell of Mom (or Dad)

The Smell of Mom (or Dad)

If your baby sleeps in a crib, or if you are trying to get your baby to sleep in a crib, this baby sleep tip could be very helpful to you.

Many new parents are surprised to learn that they have to teach their babies to sleep the way they want them to sleep.  Initially, this may mean helping your baby learn the difference between night and day, and teaching your baby to sleep at night, rather than being awake at night.  Learning to sleep in a crib is another thing that babies have to be taught to do.  Unfortunately for us parents, most babies do not arrive into the world knowing how to sleep how we want them to!

If your baby is having a difficult time sleeping in their crib, one helpful idea is to leave  something behind that has the scent of Mom or Dad on it.  Usually a piece of clothing that has been worn works great.  For babies younger than 1 year old, it is important to tie the item of clothing to a crib rail so that the baby can’t be smothered by it.  The idea here is to create an environment in the crib that is comforting to your baby, and what better way to do this than to constantly remind them of you by your scent?

Combine the comforting scent of Mom or Dad, with the soothing sounds of a Pediasleep CD or MP3, and you’re well on your way to creating the perfect baby sleep environment!
